Ancient Water Cellar Unearthed in Rafsanjan

TEHRAN, June 21 (MNA) -- An ancient water cellar was unearthed in Rafsanjan, northwestern Kerman Province the Kerman Cultural Heritage and Tourism Department announced on Monday.

Dating back to more than a century ago, “The discovery will be used as a supporting section for the Kerman Museum of Anthropology, after it is restored by architects,” said Fakur Pas.

“They will build a link between Seyyed Mahdi Bathhouse, another archeological site beside the water cellar, to create a charming atmosphere for tourists visiting the site,” he added.

The cellar has four wind catchers and a reservoir which have been unearthed undamaged.

The southern Iranian province of Kerman has many historical sites including Bam Citadel, Ganjali Khan Bathhouse, Jablieh Dome, and Kerman Bazaar.

Dating back to more than two millenniums, the Bam Citadel was largely destroyed by an earthquake on December 26, 2003.
