“Mohammadi” is derived from the name of the Muslims’ Prophet Muhammad and is the most common family name in Iran.
“Derivative surnames such as “Mir-Mohammadi” and “Pour-Mohammadi” are also highly common in the country, with rates varying from one province to another.” he stated.
“For example, “Goudarzi” in Lorestan, “Zare” in Fars, “Salari” in Kerman, and “Hosseini” in Mazandaran stand as the most popular family names.” Karami Pointed out.
The National Organization for Civil Registration official said on the longest family name in the country: “There have been many long surnames upon issuance, the longest being 35 letters. One example of such a name is Agha Mirza Mohammad Ali Shirazi, all of the words comprising the family name of an Iranian citizen.”
