Zambezi River in Zimbabwe

Zambezi River in Zimbabwe

HARARE, Zimbabwe, Nov. 4 (MNA) – The Zambezi (also spelled Zambeze and Zambesi) is the fourth longest river in Africa, after the Nile, Congo, and Niger Rivers., and the largest flowing to the Indian Ocean from Africa. The area of its basin is 1,390,000 square kilometers (540,000 sq mi).

The river flows through six countries on its journey from its source in north-western Zambia to the Indian Ocean -- from eastern Angola, along the eastern border of Namibia and the northern border of Botswana, then along the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe to Mozambique, where it crosses that country to empty into the Indian Ocean. The Zambezi's most well-known feature is Victoria Falls, which is located on the river between the countries of Zambia and Zimbabwe.
