“About Elly” continues roll at Iranian critics, screenwriters festival

TEHRAN, Jan. 19 (MNA) -- The Society for Cinema Critics and Screenwriters of Iran selected “About Elly” as best film during its annual celebration here on Monday at the Arasbaran Cultural Center.

Directed by Asghar Farhadi, “About Elly” has won several awards at other film festivals and will be representing Iranian cinema in the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 82nd Annual Academy Awards in 2010.

Leila Hatami won the Best Actress Award for her role in Hamid Nematollah’s “Penniless”, a drama about a couple facing destitution. Hatami had also won the Best Actress Crystal Simorgh for her role in “Penniless” at the Fajr International Film Festival in February in 2009.

 

The Best Actor Award went to Mohammadreza Forutan for his role in Parviz Shahbazi’s “Karat 14”.

 

Hassan Fat’hi won the Best Director Award for his movie “The Postman Doesn’t Knock Three Times”.

 

Hamid Nematollah and Hadi Moqaddam-Dust shared the Best Screenplay Award for “Penniless”.

 

The celebration continued with the handing of awards to several winners selected by the Tehran Film Club. The awards were presented to Roya Nonahali “The Voices”, Shahab Hosseini “About Elly”, and Hamid Nematollah and Hadi Moqaddam-Dust “Penniless”.
