The play runs for almost 2 hours in which short documentaries comparing the first rehearsal with the final ones will be shown to the audience, Mirnasiri told the Persian service of Fars.
“In this play, you will see the one playing the role of Rustam talks with solemnity, and the audience will be quite impressed upon watching these scenes. Of course, I must admit that this production required a lot of effort from the team,” he added.
“When those with disabilities play the roles of heroes like Rustam, Sohrab and Zal, they gain confidence which is a primary factor in their treatment. A secondary factor is that although in former times heroes were men of physical strength, today, Rustam can be a man with brilliant thoughts and ideas from the Shahnameh’s legendary heroes, who changes the world with the power of his intellect,” he had said earlier in his previous interview.
He continued saying, “All the disabled members are educated. One is a graduate of psychology from the University of Tehran. Some of them are married now and have children. This shows their hopes about their lives.”
On his motive for directing such a play using these actors, he added, “I have spent time with them to help them believe that they can regain their confidence, self-esteem and power through performing on stage. Also, I have told them that the world is in need of anybody with bright ideas. I worked and helped them regain their self-esteem, but if they are left alone after this, their problems would return much worse than before this therapy. It is the public sectors and the Nursing Home who should support them from now on.”
Mirnasiri began his drama therapy with a group of blind members in 1992. He later staged “And But Man” at the City Theater Complex with the disabled individuals.
After the devastating earthquake in Bam, he staged his third production “Passenger” with a group of citizens who were suffering from spinal cord lesions after the quake.
Mirnasiri is currently compiling the book “Modern Drama Therapy”.
