Pupal cocoons are now traded at 7 dollars, Mahdi Purhosseini stated. The price of Iranian cocoons is reasonable when compared with that of foreign products, he said.
“The silk cord price also increased in the period.”
Purhosseini added that, as new regulations were practiced in Iran’s main silk marketplaces including Qom and Kashan markets, smuggling trade of the product decreased and the prices grew in the three-month period accordingly.
The company distributed some 202,000 boxes of soricin among sericulture centers in 2000, he stated. “About 5,000 tons of cocoons as well as 800 tons of raw silk was then produced.”
Cocoon sale had witnessed 30 percent growth in 2000. Meanwhile, the prices of silk and pupal cocoon hiked since then.
