IRGC Not Involved in Political Issues: MP

TEHRAN, Nov. 14 (Mehr News Agency) - “The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) is responsible for defending the achievements of the ruling system within the framework of constitutional law. Since the major achievements are Velayat-e Faqih (rule by the supreme jurisprudent) and the path of martyrs, the IRGC must be the pioneer in defending them, and this cannot be regarded as a political stance,” MP Hamid Reza Hajbabaei, a member of the Majlis National Security Commission, told the Mehr News Agency.

Emphasizing the IRGC’s heavy responsibility in defending the integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran against foreign and internal plots within the framework of law, he said, “Owing to its responsibility in this field, the IRGC always responds to those who question the achievements of the ruling system.

“Twenty years ago the IRGC’s stance was disliked by some groups, and today some other groups may be concerned in this regard. In any case, since the IRGC follows the teachings of the Supreme Leader and the Islamic Revolution, those who swim against the current question the stance of the IRGC.”

Hajbabaei said that the involvement of the IRGC in this issue does not mean it is involved in political issues. He went on to say that the IRGC is meant to defend the Leader, the revolution, and the system, adding that those who condemn the IRGC are trying to prevent their future defeat and trying to intimidate the IRGC in an attempt to force it to abandon its defense of the achievements of the system.
