Addressing the opening ceremony of the fourth round of the Assembly of Experts,
Rafsanjani said the assembly is a “reassuring asset” for the country. It ensures people that they will never have to experience a lack of leadership, he added.
After the death of the founder of the Islamic Republic Imam Khomeini, the Assembly of Experts’ decision to choose Ayatollah Khamenei as the supreme leader brought comfort to the country, the cleric opined.
He said the assembly chose Ayatollah Khamenei who was the most qualified for leadership.
The Assembly of Experts selects and supervises the country’s leader. If the performance of the leader is deemed inadequate, it even has the power to oust him.
Rafsanjani, who also chairs the Expediency Council, said, “Even today we have no doubt that we made the best choice” and managed to protect the nation against political tension.
