“Ceasefire” to highlight Operation Mersad

TEHRAN, Dec. 7 (MNA) -- Iranian director Reza Jafari plans to recapture the spirit of the last stages of the Iran-Iraq war (1980-1988) in his film “Ceasefire”.

He intends to document the UN Security Council’s declaration of Resolution 598, which eventually led to the ceasefire, and also dramatically recreate operation Mersad which took place after the Iranian government’s acceptance of the resolution.

In operation Mersad the Iranian army engaged in combat with troops from the Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO) and managed to repel their invasion.

The MKO was an Iraq-based Iranian opposition group which carried out terrorist acts against Iran during the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war and launched an attack on the western side of the country in what was to be the last military operation of the war.

The film will be produced by IRIB’s channel 1, Jafari told MNA.

“The film will portray the most significant events of Iran’s contemporary history. It was planned that the film be produced three years ago, but it was postponed,” he added.
