Palestinian displacement from Gaza remains ‘red line’

TEHRAN, Aug. 09 (MNA) – Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty warned that plans to displace Palestinians from the Gaza Strip remain on the table and says Cairo would resist them with full force.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty warned that plans to displace Palestinians from the Gaza Strip remain on the table and says Cairo would resist them with full force, describing such a move as a “red line” for Arab and Muslim countries.

In an interview with the Palestinian Wafa news agency, Abdelatty said “voluntary displacement” could not be considered voluntary if conditions are created that make life in Gaza impossible. Pushing residents to leave under such circumstances amounts to coercion that violates international law and the rights of people under occupation, he said.

Egypt “will not accept and will not allow” displacement to take place, he said, reaffirming its commitment to Palestinians remaining on their land.

Regarding the occupied West Bank, Abdelatty expressed concern over escalating violations against Palestinians, describing the situation as “silent annexation” and “de facto annexation” that undermines prospects for a Palestinian state.
