Hope US-Iran talks to be step towards lasting peace: Pak PM

TEHRAN, Apr. 11 (MNA) – Referring to the ongoing US and Iran talks in Islamabad, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif says his country hopes that these talks would be a step towards realizing the goals of lasting peace and stability in the region.

The Pakistani Prime Minister's Office announced on Saturday that the Islamabad talks have begun with a meeting between the prime minister and the American delegation.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with US Vice President JD Vance in Islamabad on Saturday ahead of talks between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

According to a statement from the Pakistani Prime Minister's Office, the US vice president was accompanied by US President's Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

Pakistani premier was also present at the meeting, accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi.

During the meeting, the Pakistani prime minister praised the commitment of both delegations to constructive engagement and expressed hope that these talks could be a step towards achieving lasting peace in the region.

Sharif also emphasized that Pakistan is eager to continue its facilitating role between the two sides to advance the process of achieving lasting peace in the region.
