Conflict in Palestine has roots in continuation of occupation

TEHRAN, Nov. 21 (MNA) – Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi delivered a speech at the virtual meeting of the BRICS group during which he noted that the Hamas Oct. 7 attack on occupied lands has roots in 75 years of occupation.

The BRICS member states held an emergency virtual meeting to discuss Israel's ongoing onslaught against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday.

Addressing the meeting, the Iranian president emphasized that the Israeli regime's claim that it launched the war on Gaza after the Hamas attack on October 7 was "a distortion of reality," as the Israeli regime's aggression has continued its aggression over the past 75 years. He further said that, "There have been numerous conflicts in the West Bank over the past year.

"In this one year, as many as 200 Palestinians were martyred. Did anyone have rockets in Gaza and the West Bank?" he asked.

Raeisi went on to note that the goal of the Zionist regime is to displace the Palestinians from the entire West Bank, noting that, "Hamas only acted in defense of the West Bank," in its Oct. 7 attack.

He stressed that the conflict has roots in the continuation of the occupation.

The Iranian president offered some suggestions to stop crime and help the people of Gaza in his address.

"Due to the inability of the UN Security Council to carry out its mission to create peace and security and to prevent the issuance of a binding resolution for a ceasefire, it is necessary for the BRICS member countries to adopt a binding resolution in the UN General Assembly within the framework of the United Nations Peace Mechanism. against the Zionist regime and with the aim of stopping crimes against the people of Gaza," Raeisi said.

"The continuous attacks of the Zionist regime on hospitals and medical centers and religious sites and the killing of women and children, doctors, nurses and journalists are all acts of terrorism and it is necessary to label this fake regime as a terrorist regime and its army as a terrorist organization," the Iranian president further said.

"Iran supports the action of some countries in bringing the crimes of usurping Israel in Gaza to the International Criminal Court and arges  that in addition to Israel, the United States should also be tried in the international court for crimes against humanity and killing children."

"It is necessary to breach the Gaza siege through the collective action from BRICS members and create a permanent and safe route for sending humanitarian aid to Gaza," he added.

"Considering the unprecedented crimes and the dropping of several thousand tons of weapons and the use of prohibited weapons such as white phosphorus, it is necessary for the BRICS members to form a special international mission to quickly investigate this crime and publish its report publicly so that perpetrators and criminals are punished," Raeisi further suggested.

"Considering the continuous crimes and the racist nature of the fake Israeli regime, the free nations expect all governments, especially the BRICS members, to put the complete severance of their political, economic and military relations with the Zionist regime on the agenda immediately, as the continuation of interactions with this regime would mean helping the continuation of crime and the killing of women and children, which is condemned and censured by all nations," the Iranian president further noted.

At the end of his speech., the president reiterated Iran's position which is the necessity of holding a referendum with the participation of original inhabitants of the land of Palestine.
