Mikhaiili was one of four Iranians nominated for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award 2007, which will be presented by the Swedish government in May at the Skansen Open-Air Museum in Stockholm, but she lost the chance, because the prize is only awarded to living people.
With more than three decades career in illustration Mikhaiili had pictured over 10 children’s books including “Three Steps Far from Mother”, “Hundred Pieces of Ruby”, “More Beautiful than Spring”, “An Instrument Is Heard”, and “Celebration of Buds”.
Mikhaiili had also designed and illustrated “Roshd” periodical for the Ministry of Education from 1968 to 1995. She also illustrated textbooks for primary schools and pictured the texts designed as assignments for the Iranian New Year holidays.
Mikhaiili was laid to rest in Eslamshahr, southwestern Tehran today.
