Zarif raps global silence on Myanmar ethnic cleansing

TEHRAN, Aug. 30 (MNA) – In a tweet posted on Wednesday, Iranian FM Zarif criticies the global silence over the violence practiced against Muslims in Myanmar.

The Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif called international community to stop ethnic cleansing in Myanmar where Rohingya Muslims are denied citizenship, prisoned in ghetto like camps, and deprived of health services.

The Iranian top diplomat labels UN responsible to follow the dossier.

In a desperate search for refuge, thousands of Rohingya civilians have rushed to the borders of Bangladesh as the situations in the country gets more detroriating.

A minority group of around one million poor people in the western province of Rakhine in Myanmar, Rohingya are treated brutally by an establishment of majority Buddhist rulers. The central regime refers to an internal law of citizenship passed in 1982 to deny citizenship to Muslims who cannot prove their ancestors settled in the country before 1823.
