Ahvaz bombers arrested: Intelligence Ministry

TEHRAN, Aug. 16 (MNA) -- The Public Relations Department of the Intelligence Ministry issued a statement on Tuesday announcing the arrest of the perpetrators of the bombings in Khuzestan Province two months ago.

The statement reads:

“After days of determined endeavors and with the sincere help and cooperation of the Khuzestani people and the Judiciary, all the main agents involved in the bombings in Khuzestan Province some two months ago, in which a number of innocent citizens were either killed or injured and considerable financial damage was inflicted upon public property, were arrested.

“The documents and information, as well as the confessions of the detained agents indicate their affiliation with separatist groups and enemies and also their relations with unidentified ringleaders on the payroll of foreign intelligence agencies, particularly those of the United Kingdom. Their direct or indirect provocations meant to foment insecurity, disturb the peace, and shed the blood of innocent people have also been revealed.

“While sympathizing with the families of the victims of this horrible incident, the Intelligence Ministry announces that it is closely monitoring the activities of all terrorist and separatist groups within or outside the country and will not allow them to take any measures against the interests and territorial integrity of Iran, with the help of Almighty God and the sincere support of the Iranian nation, who have always been great supporters of the government.”

Meanwhile, MP Hamid Zanganeh said here on Tuesday that the problem of the unrest in Ahvaz, Khuzestan Province cannot be solved through mediation by the respected elders of the community.

Zanganeh, who represents Ahvaz in the Majlis, told the Mehr News Agency that British spies have spent a great amount of money in Khuzestan, adding that the Intelligence Ministry believes that British spies played a key role in the recent unrest in the province.

He also called on Judiciary officials to seriously deal with the ringleaders of the unrest.

In conclusion, he noted that the source of the crisis in Khuzestan Province has been identified and expressed hope that the Judiciary, the Intelligence Ministry, and the Interior Ministry would cooperate to uproot the causes of the crisis.
