The official welcoming ceremony took place in Bangkok at the presence of the prime minister of Thailand and the Iranian president while it was followed by playing the national anthem of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Thailand.
Joint negotiations between high-ranking Iranian and Thai delegations kicked off immediately after the ceremony and Rouhani is slated to attend a luncheon hosted by Prayut Chan-o-cha of Thailand.
President Rouhani, in the last leg of his Southeast Asian tour, will participate at the second Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD).
During his speech at ACD, which comprises 34 Asian states, the Iranian president will delineate Iran’s positions and will attend meetings with top-ranking authorities of a number of participating countries.
The summit pursues the aim of progress and development in Asia and will wrap up on Monday.
The Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) is an inter-governmental organisation created on 18 June 2002 to promote Asian cooperation at a continental level and to help integrate separate regional organisations such as ASEAN, SAARC, the Gulf Cooperation Council, and the Eurasian Economic Union.
Increasing economic cooperation and development as well as cultural, tourism, agriculture, environment and transport cooperation among Asian countries are some objectives pursued by ACD.
Rouhani is also scheduled to take part in an economic conference of businessmen, visit Iranians and the leaders of Muslim societies in Thailand as well as to take part in a mourning ceremony for the martyrdom of Imam Hossein (AS).
