November 22 named Isfahan Day

TEHRAN, May 15 (MNA) -- November 22 has recently been named “Isfahan Day” by researchers and experts on Isfahan’s cultural heritage.

Shahin Sepanta, the director of Iran’s Cultural Development institute, said on Sunday that the institute and several other associations initiated the idea of naming a day Isfahan Day.

All the proposals submitted to the institute by ordinary citizens, officials, researchers, and Iranologists were reviewed and categorized, he added, saying, “After considering all the historical, cultural, and social aspects of the city, the date November 22 was chosen.

“The fortifications around the city of Isfahan were constructed during the reign of Rokneddin Deylami, who chose Isfahan as his capital city in the 10th century, in order to provide security, and determine the limits of the city. This helped to achieve security for the city and reinforced the historical identity of the city, acting as a turning point in the history of Isfahan. Since the fortifications were constructed in this era sometime under the sun sign of Sagittarius (November 22 to December 21), November 22 was selected as the day.”

In addition, the image of an archer, the symbol of Sagittarius, on the tiles above the frontispiece of the Qeysarieh Bazaar, was picked as the symbol of the day, he said in conclusion.
