Iran, Russia discuss ways for expanding nuclear coop.

MOSCOW, Nov. 12 (MNA) – Iranian envoy to Moscow Mehdi Sanaei and Deputy Head of Russia's Rosatom Nicolai Spassky on Wed. reviewed the process of mutual cooperation on nuclear energy.

During the meeting which took place on the threshold of the visit of the Deputy Head of Russia's Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation Nicolai Spassky to Tehran, the two sides held talks on the current status of cooperation on the implementation of the JCPOA as well as the plans for the construction of two new power plants in the Southern city of Bushehr.

The Iranian ambassador and the Russian official also deemed significant the signing of the contract on uranium exchange between the two countries and its execution.

The two sides further discussed topics relevant to the launching of isotope-producing units in Frodow nuclear site within the framework of JCPOA implementation.

During the meeting, the topic of financing the construction of Bushehr-2 and Bushehr-3 nuclear power plants inked last November was also discussed.

The AEOI head Ali Akbar Salehi had said earlier this September that the Russian side has agreed to provide financing for the projects as far as possible.

He had also said that Russia has expressed its readiness to upgrade the centrifuge machines currently operating in the Islamic Republic, for the purpose of producing stable isotopes.

Deputy Head of Russia's Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation Nicolai Spassky heading a high-ranking delegation from Russia's state nuclear company arrived in Tehran on Wednesday for a two-day visit to discuss nuclear cooperation with senior Iranian officials.
