‘Molavi’ puppet play may stage in US

TEHRAN, Aug. 30 (MNA) – Noted Iranian theater director Behrouz Gharibpour said that his play Molavi may go on stage in the US.

Gharibpour said that during his recent trip to the US he had negotiated for staging the play in the county however it is not certain yet.

 Head of Aran Puppet Theater Group added “the ensemble’s repertoire will kick off on Sep. 27 in Tehran staging the opera of Sa’di.”

To be performed in Ferdowsi hall, the opera will be followed by other works including Ashura, MolaviHafez as well as Leili and Majnoon.  Moreover during the rehearsals, the group will also work on Khayyam puppet opera which we hope will be staged as well, he said.

Gharibpour is considered one of the pioneers of traditional Persian puppet theater, known for his extensive research on Qajar puppetry.

He has staged his Qajar style puppet play with Aran Puppet Theater Group in numerous domestic and foreign festivals.

Macbeth, Molavi and Ashura as well as Rostam and Sohrab are among his better-known works.

The Iranian director has been presented the Italian Chevalier Honor by Ambassador Mauro Conciatori in recognition of his cultural activities and promoting ties between Iran and Italy.
