Russia expects Rouhani to attend SCO

MOSCOW, Jun. 25 (MNA) –Meeting Iran’s Ambassador to Moscow, Russian Deputy FM hoped for President Rouhani’s attendance in SCO meeting.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov and Iranian Ambassador to Moscow Mehdi Sanayee met on Thursday, conferring on the latest regional and international developments as BRICS/Shanghai Cooperation Organization Heads of State Council are set to meet in the Russian city of Ufa in July 8-10.

Calling the bilateral connections of Iran-Russia deep and growing, Morgulov urged for more political and economical interactions between the two states.

Iran’s Ambassador to Moscow Mehdi Sanayee also expressed confidence that Iran and Russia are on the path to the extension of mutual ties and hoped for beneficial outcomes of the Ufa meetings for all the countries involved.

Earlier in March, Russia’s Zamir Nabiyevich Kabulov told Russia’s RIA Novosti news agency that his country throws its weight behind Iran’s “beneficial” membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

Founded in 2001 in Shanghai by the leaders of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, SCO is an intergovernmental organization which seeks to strengthen mutual trust and good-neighborliness between the member countries. Iran, along with four other countries, currently holds observer status in the organization.

BRICS is an association of five major emerging national economies: Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
