Iran, Spain call for improved cooperation

TEHRAN, Jun. 17 (MNA) – In a meeting between Iran’s deputy FM Takht-Ravanchi and Director General of Spanish Foreign Ministry on Tuesday, the two sides called for political consultations on regional and international issues.

Iranian deputy Foreign Minister for European and American Affairs Majid Takht-Ravanchi met with Director General at the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs Enrique Mora here on Tuesday.

The Iranian diplomat deemed the role of Spain in Europe significant, saying that Foreign Minister Zarif’s recent visit to Spain has considerably helped improve relations with the European country.

Zarif visited Spain on April 14 and met with President Mariano Rajoy and his counterpart José García-Margallo. The talks revolved around international issues as well as developments in the Middle East, in particular the crisis in Yemen.

Elsewhere, Takht-Ravanchi touched upon the nuclear negotiations, adding the Islamic Republic is proceeding with the talks with representatives of 5+1 in earnest.

He noted that the Iranian negotiating team is hopeful to reach an agreement on Tehran’s nuclear program by deadline.

The Spanish diplomat, for his part, expressed his satisfaction with the progress of nuclear negotiations, saying that his country is following the progress with interest.

He also added that his country is keen on having political consultations with Iran over regional and international issues.

The nuclear negotiations between representatives of Iran and 5+1 is currently underway at deputy-level in the Austrian city of Vienna.

After reaching a mutual understanding in Lausanne in April, Iran and 5+1 agreed to a June 30 deadline to reach a final deal over Tehran’s nuclear program.
