Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif made the comment in a Tuesday meeting with Syrian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Jihad al-Laham in Tehran.
Commending Syrian people for their resistance against foreign-backed terrorists, Zarif added supporters of terrorist groups have now become isolated and forced to cooperate with the Syrian government; “they have realized that they cannot ensure security and influence in the region through money or the sale of military toys,” he said.
Zarif further described coordination among Iran, Iraq and Syria, particularly in the fight against terrorism and the ISIL militant group, as beneficial to the region, saying “regional problems must be settled by regional countries.”
Laham, for his part, lauded Iran’s support for Syrian nation and government, saying his country is facing a cruel war and has managed to withstand terrorism and extremism thanks to the backing from friendly countries like Iran.
He further warned that terrorism is spreading in the region 'like a cancerous tumor,' saying those on the other side claiming to be fighting terrorism do not show much seriousness despite their claims.
He deemed Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad the key to resistance against terrorism in Syria, saying Syrian nation and its public army are standing behind Assad in fighting the terrorist militant groups.
