With the one-day nuclear negotiations wrapped up in Geneva last night, Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif told IRIB the remaining differences between Tehran and the six states are ‘technical’ and ‘political’.
“It seems it is the responsibility of the negotiators to make endeavors to finish the drafting of a nuclear agreement without excessive demands and bringing marginal issues into the discussions,” he said.
Zarif noted the two sides will intensify efforts to bridge the differences in the next meetings.
The negotiations will resume next week in Vienna at the level of deputies and experts rather than have the Kerry-Zarif talks go into a second day.
Zarif further highlighted Tehran rejects Western demand for military site inspections as well as questioning Iranian nuclear scientists, noting that the two sides have decided to discuss other alternatives to settle the differences.
With a deadline a month away, Iran the 5+1 group of countries are intensifying efforts to break the deadlock in Tehran’s peaceful nuclear program.
On April 2, the two sides reached a mutual understanding on certain key factors after eight days of tough talks in Lausanne.
The two sides are seeking to finalize by the end of June the text of a comprehensive deal on Iran’s nuclear program.
