Chinese electricity giant to return Iran

TEHRAN, May 12 (MNA) – Iran has kicked off talks with Chinese electricity giant Powerchina to negotiate construction of power plants.

Powerchina has in its record construction of more than 80 per cent of Chinese infrastructure. The company has a financial balance of $250 bn. It has in its record more than 100 projects around the world inter alia, projects in China, Malaysia, Turkey, Indonesia, etc.

Talks with Iran will include negotiating the design, commissioning, and operation of the second phase of Diz electricity power plant and construction of a separate 720mW power plant unit in Khuzestan province according to EPCF (Enhanced Photonic Crystal Fibers) method.

Last week a 14-people Chinese delegation visited Tehran and Khuzestan province and carried out an in-site preliminary exploration in Diz power plant. They reportedly received the necessary technical information in Diz repair and maintenance sectors. Powerchina experts will do an estimation of the costs and expenses, possible investments, and participation in the project to give a final verdict to Khuzestan’s provincial Water and Electricity Authority, and if the assessment is agreed, they will start operation in Diz project.

On Monday, Powerchina Directing Manager Yan Lee Huy and Alireza Daemi, Deputy-minister of Energy for Planning and Economic Affairs held a meeting in Tehran. Daemi told the Chinese official that in post-sanctions era, “Iran has been an electricity exporter to its neighbor countries, with active participation in exporting technical and engineering services in more than 40 electricity and water projects underway worldwide.”

“Iran welcomes improving its relations in electricity especially renewable energies with China; now we have in agenda most important projects and investments in this sector,” Daemi added.

Daemi cited combined cycle power plants, hydroelectric power stations, and renewable energies, and improving energy efficiency as possible cooperation cases with Powerchina; “an annual generation of 5,000mW of electricity should be the target of any investment in the industry,” he said.

Diz electricity power plant is located 23km northwest of Andimeshk. It is the first hydroelectric power station. The station could be a tourist hub as well thank to natural attractions surrounding itself and more than 6km of motorway tunnel.
