Iran elected ECOSOC committees member

TEHRAN, Apr. 09 (MNA) – The United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) has elected Iran as one of the Asia-Pacific members of the Council.

Islamic Republic of Iran managed to win membership in the executive board of United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, and Committee for the United Nations Population Award for next 3 years beginning in 2016.

Asia-Pacific members had endorsed Iran’s membership in these organizations before; during the elections of Asia-Pacific members in Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND), no consensus was possible among the candidate countries as to the election of a single member, and direct voting in ECOSOC elected Iran with a majority to membership in the CND for another 4 years.
