Ali Akbar Velayati, meeting with Italian FM Paolo Gentiloni, noted the long history of Iran-Italy political and diplomatic relations and asserted that “these long lasting ties are due to our commonalities, geographical closeness, common regional interests, and international cooperation.”
Pointing the nuclear talks between Iran and 5+1, Velayati said “Iran is not demanding anything more than its legal rights, which are recognized internationally. Iran’s rights are clear based on international laws and NPT.”
“The long procedure of negotiations helped the world to understand that Iran is merely looking for peaceful nuclear energy,” he added.
Stressing the importance and demand to expand ties with Italy, Velayati described the relations as beneficiary to both Iran and Europe.
International Affairs Adviser to Iran’s Leader, meanwhile, noted the terrorism and regional issues and said “concerns about these issues in Europe and Mediterranean region has raised common viewpoints and we are ready to use Italy’s ideas in Libya and Syria.”
Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni, also, asserted that Iran and Italy have saved the continuity and stability of their relationship despite all objections and obstacles, and “Italy is trying to protect its relations with Iran.”
He added “we hope Iran’s nuclear case would achieve a desirable end and help us to expand ties fully.”
Gentiloni, meanwhile, noted Iran’s prominent role in the region and asserted that neighboring countries could benefit from Iran’s valuable experiences.
