“Rustam and Sohrab” Opera puppet show ready for Europe

TEHRAN, Feb. 28 (MNA) -- The “Rustam and Sohrab” opera puppet show is ready to be performed in Europe, Behruz Gharibpur, the director and writer of the opera, said on Monday.

“If the Center for Dramatic Arts and the Rudaki Foundation agree, the ‘Rustam and Sohrab’ opera puppet show will be performed in European countries”, the director added.

 

He noted that several European ambassadors were impressed by the performance of the puppet show in Tehran and invited the artists to perform it in their own countries, adding, “We are now ready to launch this cultural trip, if the officials agree.”

 

So far, Italy, Austria, and Turkey have called for performances of the show in their countries, he added.

 

Gharibpur described the “Rustam and Sohrab” opera puppet show as a good representative to introduce the world to Iran’s culture, art, and history.

 

“Rustam and Sohrab” has been performed at Tehran’s Ferdowsi Hall since January 16 and the show will continue until April 21.

 

“Rustam and Sohrab” is the first opera puppet show of based on a Shahnameh story. One hundred puppets and 15 puppeteers are used in the performance. The puppets were designed and produced in Austria and the music is composed and directed by Loris Tjeknavorian. 

 

Tehran stands the third in the world after Salzburg and Vienna in opera puppet show performances and has the most opera puppet shows of any Asian city.
