First intl. Quran Translation Festival to be held

TEHRAN, Dec. 09 (MNA) – Allameh Tabatabaei University and Islamic Culture and Relations Organization will hold the first International Quran Translation Festival.

The first press conference of the Festival was held on Tuesday morning in ICRO with Hossein Mollanazar, the head of English Translation Department and Ali Dehgahi, head of Translation and Dissemination of Islamic Sciences and Humanities of the ICRO attending.

Mollanazar, who is also Festival’s secretary, told reporters that the Festival would be held on December 14 in Allameh Tabatabaei University and would continue for 3 days; “the festival will introduce and evaluate Quran translations in 8 languages by expert panels and Quran translators of 10 countries,” he added.

He also commented on foreign participants of the Festival; “we have invited experts of Quran translation from China, Republic of Azerbaijan, Iraq, Pakistan, Turkey, France, Russia, Spain, and also experts from inside Iran; the Festival will be also an attempt to address 70 issues related to Quran translations, notable among them is the history of Quran translation,” he told the press.

“A major approach will be to explore current translations of Quran worldwide, which is an area for the ICRO to play its crucial role; a collection of Persian, English, and Russian translations of Quran has been published,” Mollanazar said. “The prominent works of translation of Quran will also help the interested public to know the scholars and researchers of the Festival, which will be published in Persian and English,” he asserted.

“A sideline event will exhibit translations of Quran into 150 different languages; the event will also display 140 Quranic plates in different languages,” he said, and “7 prominent translators as well as Dr. Gholamali Haddad Adel will be the keynote speakers of the Festival,” he concluded his remarks.
