Shrimp exports on the rise

TEHRAN, Feb. 8 — Despite the 14-percent decline in the exports of the other seafood, shrimp exports increased by 25 percent and 6.5 percent in terms of weight and value respectively during the past 10 months.

“Seafood, including fishes, shrimps, caviar valued at about 64,811,000 dollars were exported during the past 10 months showing a 14-percent decrease compared to the year before”, noted a report by the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration.

 

About 6,637 tons of shrimp valued at 27,029,000 dollars was exported during the period, the figure is indicative of 25 percent and 6.5 percent increase in terms of weight and value respectively as compared with the corresponding period last year, the report also stated.

 

Meanwhile, 34 tons of caviar valued at 20,281,000 dollars was exported in the same period however, the figure indicates 31 percent and 32 percent decrease compared to the preceding year.

 

Moreover, the exports of fresh, frozen and smoked fish hit 8,378,000 dollars registering a 12-percent decline compared to the year before, the report further explained.
