Iran, Powers; back to negotiations

TEHRAN, Dec. 17 (MNA) – Iran’s senior nuclear negotiator has met EU foreign policy chief in Brussels.

Mehr News reported that Abbas Araghchi had met Catherine Ashton in EU headquarters in Brussels this morning local time to discuss Iran and Powers negotiations.

They agreed to resume expert-level talks. Araghchi denounced the US position, to which Catherine Ashton responded with ensuring him that Powers were resolute to implement the Geneva deal articles.

Following the US passing of the new sanctions in Congress against Iranian individuals, expert-level talks was abandoned by Iran, with Iranian officials objecting that the new sanctions violated the ‘spirit of the deal,’ despoiling the positive atmosphere created.

Mehr quoted Russian news agency RIA Novosti that Catherine Ashton and Abbas Araghchi discussed the ways to implement the Geneva deal articles. “We will resume talks tomorrow (Wednesday),” Ashton said. Helga Schmidt, Ashton’s aid also would attend the meeting. She had arrived at Vienna to coordinate with IAEA.
