Speaking to reporters on a weekly briefing, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hamidreza Assefi said, Iran is a democratic country where people express various viewpoints on the same issue.
He was referring to the remarks of Mohammad Javad Larijani a member of Supreme National Security Council who said Iran would withdraw from the NPT if pressures on it augment for signing the additional protocol to the NPT.
The NPT board of governors as well as the European Union have been pressing Iran to sign the additional protocol which allows instant inspections.
Iran complains that other members of the NPT have not fulfilled their obligation towards it in acquiring know-how for its peaceful nuclear program.
Iran maintains that the existing sanctions by the Western countries and other signatories to the NPT should be lifted before it decides about the additional protocol.
A group of experts are studying the additional protocol and its implication for Iran if Tehran signs it.
