TEHRAN, Jun. 01 (MNA) – Iran's Acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani in a telephone talk with Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf has proposed an extraordinary meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to halt Zionist atrocities.

During a telephone talk with Attaf on Friday, Bagheri Kani discussed the latest developments in the Gaza war, the Zionist regime's crimes in Gaza and Rafah, and bilateral cooperation between Iran and Algeria.

While thanking the Algerian President, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and other Algerian officials for the kind messages on the occasion of the martyrdom of the late Iranian president and foreign minister, he appreciated the Algerian parliament speaker for attending the tribute ceremony for them in Tehran.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Bagheri Kani described the recent brutal Zionist attacks on Palestinian refugee tents in Rafah, which led to the martyrdom of a large number of innocent and oppressed Palestinian women and children as the other part of Israeli continuous atrocities in history.

He thanked the efforts and initiative of the Algerian government on behalf of Islamic countries in presenting a draft resolution to stop the attacks of the Zionist regime, urging the necessity of emergency and joint action by Islamic countries in stopping the crimes of the occupying regime against the Palestinian people and increase aid to the oppressed residents of Gaza.

Accordingly, Bagheri Kani suggested an extraordinary Organization of Islamic Cooperation meeting, which the Algerian side welcomed.

Attaf, for his part, once again expressed his condolences over the martyrdom of Iranian President Raeisi and his entourage underscoring the commitment of the Republic of Algeria to pursue issues on the agenda of bilateral relations, including agreements made during the recent visit of Raeisi to Algeria.

Referring to the Zionist regime’s attacks on Rafah that have halted the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, and recalling his country's previous actions in support of the Palestinian people and providing assistance to the Gaza Strip, he welcomed and supported any collective and immediate initiative of Islamic countries to achieve a ceasefire and alleviate the suffering of Palestinians living in Gaza.
