TEHRAN, May 14 (MNA) – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said that the continuation of targeted US interventions in the internal affairs of Afghanistan will complicate this country's situation.

Hossein Amir-Abdollahian met and held talks with Roza Otunbayeva, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Afghanistan and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), in Tehran, Iran on Monday.

The top Iranian diplomat emphasized that Iran closely follows the developments in Afghanistan and supports stability, security, and sustainable development in the neighboring country, adding that his country supports the role of the United Nations in helping the people of Afghanistan.

He hailed the UNAMA for its humanitarian activities over the past two decades and expressed Iran's support for the continuation of UNAMA's work.

Referring to the hosting of millions of Afghan nationals in Iran, Amir-Abdollahian called on the United Nations to pay serious attention to this issue.

He criticized the US for its destructive role in Afghanistan during its presence in the country, noting that the continuation of targeted interventions by the US in the internal affairs of Afghanistan will make the situation of this country more complicated.

The top Iranian diplomat emphasized the need for diverse and multi-layered solutions to Afghanistan's complex problems.

He expressed Iran's willingness to continue supporting the initiative of Afghanistan's neighbors in helping to solve the country's problems.

Otunbayeva, for her part, explained the latest developments and issues in Afghanistan and the upcoming Doha 3rd meeting in Qatar and discussed and exchanged opinions with Amir-Abdollahian in this regard.

Confirming the complexity of the situation and the process of development in Afghanistan, she stressed the need to coordinate the diverse positions of regional players to help with the development and stability of the country.

Otunbayeva pointed to the importance of the regional initiatives of the Islamic Republic of Iran, welcoming Iran's continued diplomatic efforts within the framework of the neighbors’ summit.
