TEHRAN, Apr. 17 (MNA) – The parade of April 17, the anniversary of the Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran, started on Wednesday in Tehran and other cities across the country.

The ceremony is underway in Tehran in the presence of the Iranian President Seyed Ebrahim Raeisi, the chief of staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Bagheri, the Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Major General Hossein Salami,  Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi, the top military adviser to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei,  Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Shahram Irani,  Commander of the Iranian Army's Ground Force Brigadier General Kioumars Haydari and a number of senior Iranian commanders and officials.

The National Army Day, which is celebrated annually on April 18, was named by the founder of the Islamic Revolution, Imam Khomeini, in 1979.

Imam Khomeini's initiative, in that time, could boost the status of the Iranian Army which was faced with internal and external sabotage.

The historic decision by Imam Khomeini came after hostile propaganda for undermining the Army after its successful missions in quelling riots and separatist plots.
