US national security advisor Jake Sullivan claimed on Monday that Iran is the “ultimate party responsible” for recent attacks on Israeli vessels in the Red Sea, for which Yemen’s Ansarullah movement, which runs the Sana’a government, has claimed responsibility.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Naser Kan'ani hit back on Wednesday, saying the US itself is the “ultimate party responsible” for destabilizing the region over its unconditional support for the Zionist regime, including sending bombs and lethal weapons to the occupying entity.
The US expression of concern about regional security while fully supporting the Israeli genocide against Palestinians is more like a “bitter joke” and is a sign of Washington’s “blatant hypocrisy”, said Kan'ani.
“Contrary to the claims of the US government officials, the military presence of that country in the region’s lands and waters has never been a source of security, and the US government, with its illegal plots and interventions, has pursued the security and illegitimate interests of the Zionist regime at the cost of destabilizing regional countries and violating the rights of the Palestinian people,” the top Iranian diplomat noted.
He also reiterated that the Islamic Republic does not have “proxy forces” in the region, making clear that the resistance movements in regional countries act completely independently at their own discretion and with the aim of safeguarding their security or supporting the oppressed Palestinian nation.
On Monday, the Yemeni army attacked two Israeli ships in the Red Sea as they were trying to cross the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
The spokesman of the Yemeni armed forces, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, announced that the Israeli ships’ passage was disrupted in support of the Palestinian nation.
Sullivan also said Monday that Washington is in talks with other countries about a maritime task force in the Red Sea.
