TEHRAN, Oct. 05 (MNA) – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has called for establishing peace and security in the Caucasus region and removing the tensions.

Amir-Abdollahian met and held talks with the representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on special assignments Khalaf Khalafov on Wednesday.

During the meeting, the top Iranian diplomat stressed the importance of the beginning of a new chapter of regional cooperation in promoting peace and economic development in the Caucasus region.

He also called for making the bilateral relations between Tehran and Baku balanced in various aspects.

The Azeri envoy, for his part, called for expanding the bilateral ties between Iran and Baku.

Khalafov also said that Baku backs supporting the rights of Armenians and other civilians residing in the Karabakh region, stressing that guaranteeing freedom and providing the needs of Armenians of Karabakh is a priority of the Azerbaijani government.
