TEHRAN, Sep. 18 (MNA) – Lawmakers in the Iranian parliament have voted to approve Kioumars Hashemi as the country's new Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs.

In an open session of the parliament on Monday, lawmakers cast 167 votes in favor and 57 against Hashemi's appointment as sports minister, while 12 lawmakers were undecided and one vote was dismissed.

Hashemi replaced Hamid Sajjadi, who resigned from his post due to his physical health condition.

Sajjadi suffered serious injuries in a helicopter crash in February.

Kioumars Hashemi served as the president of the National Olympic Committee of Iran from 2014 to 2018.
