Saeed Mohammadzadeh made the remark on the sidelines of the 22nd summit of the International Union of Railways (UIC) in the Middle-East region and maintained that the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways managed to transport about 47 million tons of cargo as well as 24,500,000 passengers in past year (ended March 20, 2018).
He pointed out that Iran's rail transport industry has made a 50 percent growth over the past four years.
Elsewhere in his remark, Mohammadzadeh said that a total of more than 600km new rail lines was added to Iran's rail transport network, 1,200 km of which was constructed in two lanes.

He added that 2,000 km rail lines were renovated in the past six years, adding, “3,000 freight wagons, some 200 locomotives and 200 passenger cars were added by the private sector to the rail transport network over the past two years.”
He further put the current volume of goods exchanges to neighboring states via rail transport at 75 million tons.
