Envoys and representatives of the member countries, including Turkey, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Kirgizstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan and Iran are attending the 234th ECO Council of Permanent Representatives, which is being held in Sari, Mazandaran province.
During their stay, the guests visited Amirabad Port and were briefed about the potentials and capacities of the Iranian hub and its role as a transit corridor in the region.
Amirabad is currently the largest port facility on the Caspian shore and the third largest port in Iran. The 1,000-hectare port currently has nine berths, which can accommodate Ro-Ro vessels, trains and trucks.
The two-day ECO event will wrap up today, and the visiting representatives are scheduled to leave Sari for Tehran later tonight.
ECO is a regional economic organization founded by the Islamic Republic of Iran, Pakistan and Turkey it in 1964. After the collapse of Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), Afghanistan, Azerbaijan Republic, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan joined this organization.
Environmental challenges, boosting level of trade and business cooperation between regional countries, progressing intra-regional communications in terms of road transport as well as enhancing energy network are of the main and basic priorities of the Economic Cooperation Organization.
