Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in a tweet Tuesday night responded to US President Donald Trump’s call for a meeting with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, saying that Iran and US had two years of talks for reaching an agreement on Iran’s nuclear case, which ended with Washington pulling out from the deal in a unilateral and unlawful manner.
“With EU/E3+Russia+China, we produced a unique multilateral accord—the JCPOA. It’s been working. US can only blame itself for pulling out & leaving the table,” wrote Zarif in the tweet.
The top diplomat went on to add that “threats, sanctions & PR stunts won’t work,” advising the US to instead show “respect” for Iranians and for international commitments.
