TEHRAN, Jul. 28 (MNA) – According to Iranian Customs statistics of foreign trade, during the first quarter of current Iranian year more than 56 tones of any kinds of saffron worth $77.401 million were exported abroad.

The statistics show that each gram of the exported saffron worth $1.37 during the period, compared to the same period last year which was 36 tons worth $47.758 million.

The exports of saffron in the first quarter of this year grew by 55% and 58% in weight and value respectively compared with the year before. 

Iran is the world’s biggest saffron producer and accounts for more than 93% of the global production. Close to 95% of the Iranian saffron are grown in the two provinces of South Khorasan and Khorasan Razavi in northeastern Iran.
