TEHRAN, Jul. 13 (MNA) – Iranian powerlifter Mohammad Raiesi grabbed two gold and one silver while breaking the world record at World University Powerlifting Cup.

In 84 kg category of the competitions, Raiesi went on to the platform on Thursday.

Clearing 227.5 kg in his squat attempt, the Iranian athlete snatched the gold medal of this category. Athletes from Russia and Poland stood in next rankings.

His silver came as he successfully lifted 292.5 kg in deadlift category. 

In press bench he conquered 147.5 but that was not enough for a medal claim. The gold medal medal went to a powerlifter from the host country.

However, in total, the Iranian powerlifter could beat world students’ record by lifting 717.5 kg, enhancing the record by 17.5 kg, and received the gold medal.

The competition started on July 8 and will wrap up on July 14 in Pilsen, Czech Republic.

Earlier, Navid Yazdani managed to gain one silver medal of Iran in the competitions.

The other Iranian powerlifter Mohsen Salary at 93kg category will take to the platform today.
