Reza Najafi made the remarks on Monday in the ongoing second session of three planned sessions of Preparatory Committee for the 2020 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) which started on April 23 and will end on May 4, 2018 at the United Nations Office in Geneva.
Najfi said that the deployment of nuclear weapons by the United States in Europe under the umbrella provided by NATO, and helping the Zionist regime with constructing and testing nuclear arms, and nuclear assistance to governments outside the NPT are in clear violation of the treaty.
He went on to stress that the only way to prevent the proliferation of these weapons is to eliminate them completely, while nuclear countries continue to maintain and enhance their nuclear weapons in violation of their obligations under the NPT.
The Iranian ambassador to IAEA emphasized the full adherence of the Islamic Republic of Iran to its obligations under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), saying that as long as nuclear weapons exist, the risk of proliferation of these weapons, whether through transfer to other countries or through the promotion and production of them by the countries who possess them exists.
