TEHRAN, Dec. 17 (MNA) – Iranian cerebral palsy (CP) footballers have earned tickets to 2018 IBSA Blind Football World Championships for finishing vice-champion at 2017 Football 5-a-side Asian Championships in Malaysia.

In a neck-on-neck final showdown, the Iranian men’s national five-a-side football team suffered a 2-0 defeat in the face of Chinese rivals to finish in the second place at International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) Football 5-a-side Asian Championships in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The breathtaking final match convened in at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil of Kuala Lumpur on Sunday morning. In the third-place contest, Thailand overcame South Korea (2-0) and stood on the third podium.

Japanese athletes came fifth after getting the better of Malaysian rivals.

En route to the finals, Persian CP football players had downed South Korea, Malaysia and Thailand.

The IBSA Football 5-a-side Asian Championships 2017 kicked off in Malaysia on December 9, and concluded on December 18.

The top three teams will book a slot at next year's World Championships in Madrid, Spain.
