TEHRAN, Oct. 14 (MNA) – Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani said Sat. that any undermining measure against the nuclear deal would end up undermining global and regional peace, calling on EU to safeguard the agreement.

President Hassan Rouhani made the remarks in a meeting with the newly-appointed Swiss Ambassador to Tehran, Markus Leitner, while receiving his credentials, stressing that Switzerland as part of the European Union could play a constructive role in regional and international issues.

"Breaking the negotiation table is not a skill and the bases of settling international disputes must be strengthened through dialogue," said President Rouhani. "Tehran's nuclear activities are peaceful and will always remain so. And we will not be the first party to violate the JCPOA as long as the other side remains committed to it.”

For his part, the Swiss Ambassador to Tehran voiced his country’s strong support for the JCPOA, saying “we believe that all parties to this agreement must fulfil their obligations and your appropriate reaction reflects Iran's compliance with international obligations.”

Also on Saturday, President Rouhani received the letter of credence of the new Ambassador of Norway to Tehran, Lars Nordrum, calling for further economic ties between the private and public sectors of the two countries.

"I hope all EU member countries, including Norway, play their constructive role in protecting the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and make the best use of opportunities for cooperation," said President Rouhani.

For his part, the new Norwegian ambassador voiced his country’s stance as similar to the EU’s toward the full implementation of commitments under the nuclear deal.

In a meeting with the newly-appointed Greek Ambassador to Tehran, Dimitri Alexandrakis, President Rouhani said "the JCPOA proved that dialogue and cooperation are the best solution to international disputes and in the interest of the international community, including Europe and the United States.”

Dimitri Alexandrakis, for his part, highlighted the importance of implementation of the JCPOA by all parties, adding "those sides which do not live up to their commitments under the deal must be explicitly told that they have made the wrong decision.”
