TEHRAN, Sep. 26 (MNA) – Iranian women futsal outfit pulled out a sweeping win over Chinese rivals to land in the third place at 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games of Asia and Pacific Region in Turkmenistan.

In a third-place encounter on Monday, female futsal players of Iran defeated china 5-1 to occupy the third position in the prestigious sportive event.

Fereshteh Karimi’s brace and Sarah Shirbeigi’s hat-trick gave the Persian side a 5-0 lead though the East Asian opponents only managed to score one goal throughout the stunning match.

Thailand and Japan are slated to meet in the final showdown of the futsal event in Ashgabat.

Iran’s female squad had finished vice-champion in the previous edition of the tournament in South Korea.

The men’s and women’s futsal events at the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games are being held over 10 days at the state-of-the-art Multifunctional Sport Venue, just outside the Ashgabat Olympic Complex.

In the women's tournament, nine teams had been split into three groups of three.

The Iranian squad, comprising 214 sportswomen and sportsmen, are also attending the games in Ashgabat attended by 49 Asian countries and 24 teams from Pacific region.
