TEHRAN, Sep. 25 (MNA) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani underlined that Iran-Russia relations will continue to be strengthened by furthering the ongoing plans.

"The territorial integrity of the region and preventing the change in political borders are important issues for the Islamic Republic of Iran," Rouhani said, during a phone conversation with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Tuesday.

Rouhani referred to the ongoing meeting of the presidents of Iran, Russia and Azerbaijan in Tehran, saying, “we highly regard the trilateral relations between the three countries, and in the meeting, the issues of interest will be put on the agenda".

Pointing to the common positions of the two countries on Syria and the pursuit of Astana Peace Talks, Rouhani said “we are serious about the Syrian issue, and believe that the whole world is now looking at Astana talks, regarding it a constructive cooperation on Syria.”

"Territorial integrity in the region and no change in political boundaries are considered very important for the Islamic Republic of Iran and we are fully prepared to continue the process of cooperation and coordination for the next Astana summit," added the president.

Referring to the current developments in Iraq, he said “the Islamic Republic of Iran highly regards regional security and preserving Iraq's territorial integrity and national unity."

The Russian President Vladimir Putin also reaffirmed Moscow's determination to develop inclusive relations with Tehran, and described quick implementation of the existing projects.

Putin also praised Tehran's constructive position in previous Astana summits on Syria, stressing that cooperation between the two countries along with Turkey on Syrian issue will strongly continue to bring peace to the war-stricken country and destruct the terrorists".

Putin also said that Russian government supports Iraqi government and its territorial integrity by explaining the positions of Moscow on the developments in Iraq.
