During the conversation, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani voiced resolve for closer cooperation with Turkey during his second term in office, welcoming the growing interactions between the two countries in recent months.
President Rouhani highlighted the need for more cooperation and consultation between the two sides for settling regional issues, adding “today, the critical situation in the Middle East calls for closer cooperation between Iran and Turkey to restore stability and security to the region.”
“Iran does not see the desire of certain groups for separation and the issues grappling the Persian Gulf states as beneficial to the peace and security of the region,” Rouhani stressed.
While noting that full security has not yet been established in Iraq and Syria, President Rouhani called on Turkey as a major regional power to play a more active part in establishing stability in the region.
The Iranian president further voiced regret over the continuing violence against Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar, saying the Islamic Republic of Iran condemns any act of violence against Muslims in any part of the world.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, for his part, felicitated Rouhani on the occasion of Eid al-Adha and the inauguration of his second-term cabinet, voicing confidence that cooperation between the two countries would further improve during Rouhani’s new administration.
“Turkey’s resolve is aimed at developing political and economic relations with Iran,” he stressed.
President Erdogan also voiced concern over the ethnic cleansing in Myanmar, calling for strengthening cooperation and solidarity between Iran and Turkey toward the settlement of many regional issues.
