Foreign Minister Mohmmad Javad Zarif was reacting to John Bolton’s proposal in the United Nations for withdrawal of the US from JCPOA, adding that such proposals have lost their efficiency.
He pointed to the fact that this is not the first time Bolton has proposed such policies. “In the 2000s, his policies were implemented in the US and they saw the result. Mr. Bolton must bear in mind that the US wouldn’t have been compelled to sit down at the negotiating table after ten years, if his policies had been successful.”
Iranian top diplomat further explained, 'ten years ago, Bolton introduced policies against uranium enrichment, but in the end Iran managed to increase the number of centrifuges to 20,000 in the next ten years, while we only had 200 centrifuges back then. In fact, Mr Bolton’s achievement was 19,800 more centrifuges for us."
Zarif went on to add, “I think American people are well aware of the failure of such policies upheld by Mr. Bolton and the likes of him. And that is why no one is listening to these proposals anymore. The international community has shown that insisting on such policies will only isolate the United States and will not yield any good results for them.”
