KABUL, Aug. 21 (MNA) – Five Taliban militants were killed following an airstrike conducted by Afghan Special Forces in Afghanistan's eastern province of Nangarhar on Monday, the government military said.

"On Monday morning, on a confirmed tip off, Afghanistan Operational Coordination Group (AOCG) carried out an airstrike on a Taliban position in Sherzad district, Nangarhar province, killing five members of Taliban terrorist group," AOCG or command of Special Forces said in a statement.

The elimination of the targeted militants would further improve the public security in the eastern provinces, the statement added.

"The Afghan Special Operation Forces spare no effort to provide security throughout the country," the statement said.

Afghan security forces have beefed up security operations against militants, as Afghans have been witnessing a surge in attacks by Taliban and Islamic State (IS) militants across the country.

The Taliban has yet to make comments.
